Many times I wonder if technological advances such as email, cell phones and electronic time management systems have failed in making our lives easier and rather created a society of crazed individuals diseased with the burden of "get it done NOW!" Recently I had to give up my cell phone to be repaired. Of course, they could not fix it in the store nor did they have a replacement in stock. So, I embarked on a two week journey of being disconnected with my follow man. Initially, I felt lost, naked and frightened but over time I began to realize how much I enjoyed listening to the radio when I drove around town. I loved not being called by my children to ask me what was for dinner and mostly I became accustomed to quiet, to my pocket not vibrating and the musical ring tone not blaring while I was visiting the bathroom. Alas, my technology vacation came to an end but my perspective had changed. I realized that I am really not that important and gravity will work sufficiently without my assistance. Additionally, I can actually turn my cell phone off for brief periods of time and not have an anxiety attack.

Why do I share this in a book review? It's simple, it seems we don't even have the time to stop long enough to evaluate what needs to change in our lives to make us happy. If you are looking to identify potential roadblocks in your path towards happiness, Stop Living Your Job Start Living Your Life is a great place to begin. The book is really big picture, pinpointing key areas in our quest for balance. Although it doesn't give great action plans toward removing the blockades it does motivate you to grow through the simple steps of getting focused, getting organized, getting connected and getting going!
