I've moved away from your standard business book this holiday season to ponder the classic Dr. Seuss book How The Grinch Stole Christmas. What I cherish about this classic is that you discover new meanings each year. My first recollections were simple. It's probably not a great idea as a small dog to pull a sleigh for a big green guy. Cindy Lou Who....pretty cool name, and Whoeville....not on my list of places I must visit! However, when you take the time to read this as a grown-up, there is one valuable lesson that can really put this time of year in perspective. You probably know the story- The Grinch tires of the merry life in Whoville at Christmastime and takes it upon himself to change all by stealing everything in sight. He soon realizes that taking all of their belongings does not take away their spirit... their love. He has an epiphany and realizes that "Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little more!" Dr. Seuss captures the essence of this special time of year: Whether you and yours celebrate Christmas or not.
